Abstract

Soft robotics needs materials that fold easily yet remain strong under load. A "foldable-yet stiff" fiber-reinforced polymer is presented via multi-resin dispensing that integrates rigid and flexible epoxy regions in a monolithic laminate. Preheated carbon and aramid fabrics are pattern-dispensed and compressed for uniform impregnation and bonding. Thermodynamic and rheological analysis define the process window, and DMA confirms thermomechanical durability. Rigid FRP shows high storage modulus for load-bearing, while flexible FRP keeps a nearly constant modulus across temperature for repeated folding. This enables hinge zones and rigid frames in one layup without joints. Tensile strength reaches 371.6 MPa for rigid FRP and 180.4 MPa for flexible FRP with higher elongation. A triangulated cylindrical origami prototype remains stable under harsh repeated folding and deployment, enabling scalable robotic and aerospace deployables.
