Fabrication and Characterization of Carbon Nanowebs using Biodegradable Polymer for Supercapacitor Electrode

Abstract

Supercapacitors are energy storage devices with much higher capacitance than conventional capacitors, and the structural and chemical properties of the electrode materials determine their electrochemical performance. In this study, AN/MA/IA-terpolymer was synthesized by aqueous suspension polymerization of acrylonitrile (AN), methyl acrylate (MA), and itaconic acid (IA), and polymerization was confirmed through FT-IR and NMR analyses. Subsequently, The interaction between shellac and PAN was confirmed using FT-IR and XPS analyses, while the pore structure development, surface properties, and fiber diameter were evaluated using BET analysis and SEM observation. Furthermore, the thermal properties were analyzed using DSC and TGA. Finally, the electrochemical performance of the fabricated carbon nanoweb electrode was evaluated through cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) measurements.
