Abstract

Functional polymers offer effective pathways to overcome intrinsic limitations of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) by enabling simultaneous control of Li-ion and electron transport. Here, we present a polymer-centric strategy for solid polymer electrolytes and conductive polymer binder systems to enhance overall battery performance. Ferroelectric solid electrolytes are structurally engineered to reduce ion-transport tortuosity, enabling stable Li-ion conduction at room temperature. Extending this design concept, a conductive PEDOT:PSS/polyethylene glycol binder combined with single-walled carbon nanotubes is introduced to enhance electronic conductivity while maintaining strong adhesion between active materials and the current collector. The resulting conductive binder enables improved rate capability and cycling stability in both Si anodes and LFP cathodes. These results underscore the rational design of polymer architectures as a versatile framework for advancing next-generation LIBs.
