Abstract
Organic thin-film transistor-based gas sensors offer low-cost fabrication, mechanical flexibility, and solution processability, but their application is limited by poor sensitivity, selectivity, and air stability. In this study, metal-organic frameworks with different ligand heteroatoms were incorporated into poly(3-hexylthiophene) active layers to enhance gas adsorption and sensing performance. MOF-303, MIL-160, and CAU-23, containing nitrogen-, oxygen-, and sulfur-based ligands, respectively, were blended with P3HT to fabricate OFET-type gas sensors. Dynamic NO₂ sensing tests showed that the MOF-303 blended sensor exhibited the highest response and sensitivity, attributed to bifunctional amine groups that enable strong interactions with NO₂. In addition, MOF-303- and MIL-160-based sensors demonstrated improved air stability. These results highlight ligand heteroatom tuning as an effective strategy for high-performance organic gas sensors.
