Design of Crosslinkable Network Polymer Electrolytes for All-Solid Lithium Metal Batteries

Abstract

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) are promising for lithium metal batteries due to their low cost, flexibility, and processability. However, conventional SPEs prepared via ex situ methods suffer from poor interfacial contact, high electrode|SPE interfacial resistance, and low ionic conductivity at room temperature. In contrast, in situ methods can trigger side reactions between lithium metal and precursor before complete polymerization, while leaching of residual monomers may cause unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) . In this study, we developed a crosslinkable network polymer electrolyte using a crosslinkable monomer with acetonitrile as an additive. Through crosslinking, the residual monomers and the additive were integrated into a solid polymer matrix, forming a complete solid-state electrolyte. The electrolyte is expected to improve interfacial stability and suppress side reactions, suggesting its potential for highly stable all-solid lithium metal batteries.
