Abstract

Graphene fibers (GFs) with highly aligned 2D sheet stacking exhibit synergistically enhanced electrical conductivity and mechanical strength, making them promising materials for wearable sensors, lightweight flexible conductors, textile-based energy devices, and flexible heaters. We demonstrate that nanodiamonds (NDs) act as molecular-level lubricants in highly aligned graphene liquid-crystalline fibers. Introduced during GF processing, NDs mitigate excessive intersheet interactions and function as nanoscale bearings that reduce friction between adjacent graphene sheets under deformation. Consequently, reduced graphene/nanodiamond (r-GND) fibers exhibit enhanced elongation and excellent bending stability via efficient stress relaxation without sacrificing electrical conductivity, enabling facile weaving or knitting into textiles and highlighting their potential for next-generation wearable conductors and flexible heaters.
