Abstract In the automotive synthetic leather industry, eco-friendly waterborne polyurethanes (WPUs) are increasingly replacing solvent-based systems to comply with environmental regulations and improve vehicle interior air quality. Although polycarbonate diol (PCDL)-based WPUs offer superior durability, their surface functionalities, such as anti-fouling behavior and slip properties, still require improvement compared to conventional solvent-based systems.
In this study, a side-chain siloxane diol was incorporated into PCDL-based WPUs to achieve effective surface modification via surface migration during film formation. The influence of siloxane content on the chemical structure, particle size distribution, viscoelastic behavior, and mechanical properties of the modified WPUs was systematically investigated. Through this analysis, this study aims to examine the correlation between the role of siloxane and its content in WPU for automotive interior topcoats.
