Illite is a natural clay mineral found in the Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do. It has many beneficial properties that make it a promising cosmetic ingredient, including rich mineral content, antibacterial activity, adsorption of harmful substances, UV protection, and skin tone-up effects. In addition, illite naturally exhibits a light brown hue, enabling natural skin color brightening without synthetic pigments. In this study, a tone-up cream formulation containing illite was prepared based on its multifunctionality and unique color characteristics. Compared to the formulations without illite, the illite-containing cream formulation exhibited a natural light skin tone, demonstrating superior tone-up effects. This presentation provides the preparation procedure of the formulations with and without illite and comparative analyses of their physical properties, including pH and moisture content. Moreover, their rheological behavior was evaluated to assess spreadability and stability.
