To address tightening global PFAS regulations, this study presents the development of eco-friendly, fluorine-free water-dispersible latexes. PDMS-containing acrylic copolymers were synthesized via emulsion polymerization using PDMS macromonomers (PDMS-M) and acrylate monomers. This approach integrated the low surface energy and high chain flexibility of silicone into the acrylate backbone, creating efficient hydrophobic coatings. The chemical structures were confirmed using FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopies. Surface analysis showed that contact angle (CA) significantly improved with higher PDMS content and longer alkyl chains of the acrylates, achieving a CA exceeding 100°. Thermal stability and mechanical durability were also evaluated to confirm industrial viability. These findings suggest that the PDMS-acrylate latexes are a promising sustainable alternative to conventional fluorinated agents in the eco-friendly coating industry.
