Conjugated polymers are promising flexible thermoelectric (TE) materials whose TE properties relies on dopant-induced charge carrier generation. However, their hydrophobic nature limits dopant diffusion, restricting bulk doping and reducing doping efficiency, which necessitates excessive dopant incorporation that disrupts polymer crystallinity and degrades charge transport.
In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of conjugated polymers, 3ORR, 4ORR, and 5ORR, by introducing three to five ethylene glycol units into the side chains to systematically control polymer–dopant interactions.
Electrical and TE properties revealed that 3ORR exhibited the highest electrical conductivity (724 S cm⁻¹) and power factor (466 μW m⁻¹ K⁻²). Morphological and nanostructural analyses indicated that enhanced dopant interactions and a shorter molecular stacking distance in 3ORR enable more efficient charge transport, resulting in superior TE performance compared to 4ORR and 5ORR.
