Silicon has long been a foundational material platform for semiconductor devices and electronic systems. To address the bandgap limitations inherent to silicon semiconductors, hybrid approaches combining silicon with quantum dots, as well as quantum-dot-based semiconductor platforms, have gained increasing importance.
This presentation highlights recent progress in silicon–quantum dot integrated semiconductor platforms, with a focus on quantum dot material development and device implementation. In particular, scalable synthesis strategies for infrared (IR)-responsive quantum dots are discussed to enable practical semiconductor applications beyond silicon’s intrinsic bandgap. Advances in quantum dot synthesis scale-up are presented alongside representative applications in sensing, optoelectronic devices, and energy-related technologies, demonstrating the potential of quantum-dot-based semiconductor platforms for extended functionality and manufacturable systems.
