Polypropylene (PP) nonwoven fabrics are widely used in medical and hygiene applications, but conventional nanoparticle-based antibacterial treatments suffer from detachment and leaching. To overcome these limitations, a covalent grafting strategy was employed. Sulfonamide-based antibacterial monomers were designed based on structure–activity relationship principles and grafted onto PP nonwoven fabrics via a Norrish type II photoinitiated reaction under mild UV irradiation. An acryloyl-functionalized sulfonamide monomer was synthesized and polymerized with a 93% monomer conversion confirmed by ¹H NMR. Both the monomer and polymer achieved a 99.9% reduction of E. coli in ASTM  tests. The antibacterial polymer was covalently grafted onto PP nonwoven fabrics, as confirmed by FT-IR, water contact angle measurements, and mass increase. The modified PP nonwoven fabrics exhibited effective antibacterial performance in JIS tests, demonstrating a durable antibacterial strategy.
