Bakuchiol is a natural retinol alternative but faces challenges due to its extreme hydrophobicity (logP = 6.1). This study developed a lipid-grafted alginate (Alg-DMPE) micelle system for targeted skin delivery. Alg-DMPE was synthesized via EDC/NHS coupling and self-assembled into micelles. Bakuchiol was encapsulated using solvent diffusion. Results confirmed stable spherical micelles, with Ca2+ addition further optimizing size and stability. Crucially, analysis on OTS-coated surfaces, mimicking skin's hydrophobicity, demonstrated that micelles disintegrate upon contact with hydrophobic interfaces, enabling triggered release. This surfactant-free, biocompatible system ensures high stability in aqueous media and efficient release on the skin, offering a robust platform for hydrophobic cosmetic actives.
