This talk focuses on the role of hydrodynamic interactions in governing particle distributions and microstructural evolution during coating and drying of particulate suspensions. Using primarily mesoscale lattice Boltzmann simulations, we examine how hydrodynamic interactions, together with particle migration, surface property variations, and Brownian effects, control particle organization in various flow fields. We further extend the discussion to drying processes in both thin films and evaporating droplets containing polydisperse particles, highlighting how the interplay between evaporation rate and hydrodynamic interactions leads to distinct microstructures, including large-on-top and small-on-top stratification as well as patterned structures.
