Abstract

This study presents a dual strategy combining oxide-layer reduction and ignition promoter integration to enhance the performance of boron-based nanoadditives for scramjet fuels. Boron nanoparticles are functionalized with silane to form polymer-like interfacial networks, significantly improving dispersion stability in hydrocarbon fuels. Titanium nanoparticles (TNs) are physically mixed with silane-coated reduced boron nanoparticles (SRBNs), enabling rapid ignition without compromising particle integrity. The resulting SRBN-TN composites exhibits significantly improved combustion characteristics including high calorific value, reduced ignition delays, and more micro-explosions verified by the various analysis. Moreover, high-speed imaging camera validate that the synergistic effects of silane-based interfacial structuring and TN-induced ignition facilitated faster and cleaner combustion. This approach provides a scalable pathway for developing advanced energetic additives suitable for hypersonic fuel systems.
