Chiropto-neuromorphic Operation Using Chiroptical Photocatalyst

Abstract

Organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) are promising neuromorphic platforms due to their ionic–electronic coupling and memory characteristics. Light-driven synaptic devices using optical stimuli have gained attention for enabling low-power, non-invasive operation. While most studies rely on photoactive semiconducting layers, we present an alternative strategy by introducing a photocatalyst into the electrolyte with PBTTT-C12 as the semiconductor. This enables photoreactive OECT behavior with reliable synaptic plasticity under illumination. By incorporating chirality into the light-responsive photocatalyst, the system exhibits handedness-dependent photocurrent under circularly polarized light, allowing chirality-resolved neuromorphic operation. These results demonstrate its potential in chiroptical neuromorphic computing. This study offers a new route to integrate molecular chirality into advanced neuromorphic systems with directional optical selectivity.
