Abstract

Developing transparent polymers with both mechanical robustness and self-healing capability is a critical challenge for next-generation flexible displays and electronics. In this study, we report a crosslinked elastomer incorporating a sustainable isosorbide oligomer (HO) that forms strong, localized hydrogen-bonding networks. The resulting elastomer (HELI) exhibited excellent optical and mechanical properties, including 91.7% transmittance, 0.5% haze value at 550nm, and 3H surface hardness. It also endured 100,000 folding and 10,000 rolling cycles without optical or structural degradation. Notably, HELI autonomously recovered 95% of its tensile strength within 10 min at 80°C, enabled by dynamic HO-mediated reversible hydrogen bonds that dissipate stress and repair damage at the molecular level. These results demonstrate a promising approach toward durable, transparent, and healable coatings for next-generation flexible displays and electronics.
