Abstract

The device performance of organic thermoelectric (OTE) materials is generally evaluated by the power factor (PF = S2∙σ). However, a significant trade-off exists between the Seebeck coefficient (S) and electrical conductivity (σ), as these parameters are inversely dependent on the carrier concentration. Therefore, optimization of both S and σ is critical for enhancing thermoelectric performance.
In this work, we report a novel organic thermoelectric polymer, PTMN 1–3, featuring strong electron-withdrawing groups in the side chain. These groups exhibit strong interaction with FeCl3 molecule, enabling pendant-type doping. This doping strategy allows selective trapping of dopants, leading to improved electrical conductivity while mitigating the reduction of the Seebeck coefficient. As a result, the polymer exhibits a consistently high power factor exceeding 10µWm-1K-2 over a broad doping concentration range (1632mM)
