Abstract
Potassium glucarate, derived from renewable glucose, serves as a promising bio-based intermediate for sustainable adipic acid synthesis. In this study, adipic acid was produced via a one-pot reaction involving deoxydehydration (DODH) and hydrogenation using a Pd-ReOx/AC catalyst. The reaction was carried out under 110~150 °C and 2~30 bar H₂ in alcohol as solvent. The DODH reaction selectively removed hydroxyl groups of side chain from glucarate, forming an unsaturated intermediate, which was subsequently hydrogenated to adipate ester. As a result, solution was concentrated and converted to adipic acid through hydrolysis. Yield and purity of product were confirmed using FT-IR, ¹H , and GC/LC-MS. This study suggests that biomass can be used as an efficient and selective method for converting glucarate to adipic acid
