Abstract
Polycarbonate (PC) is extensively employed in fused deposition modeling (FDM) due to its excellent mechanical properties; however, poor interlayer adhesion and significant mechanical anisotropy remain persistent challenges. This study investigates PDMS-PC block copolymers, in which polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)—a polymer possessing a low glass transition temperature—is incorporated into PC to enhance printing performance. Samples with varying PDMS contents (6%, 9%, and 20%) were evaluated alongside neat PC. Rheological properties were characterized through small amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS), steady shear, high-strain time sweep, and elongational viscosity (EVF) tests to explore structural behavior under conditions relevant to FDM processing. Morphological features of the materials were preliminarily examined to establish structure-property correlations. Additionally, thermal properties were characterized using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to determine suitable printing parameters.
