Dual-Functional Strategy via Ethylenediamine and γ-ray-irradiated NiOx for Highly Sensitive Perovskite Photoelectronic Devices

Abstract

This study investigates the synergistic effect of combining ethylenediamine (EDA) treatment and γ-ray irradiation on NiOx sol-gel, which dramatically improves its performance as a hole-transport layer in perovskite optoelectronic devices. EDA treatment stabilizes the film morphology and partially oxidizes Ni²⁺ to Ni³⁺, after which subsequent γ‑ray irradiation further increases the Ni³⁺ fraction. The elevated Ni³⁺ content activates the Ni²⁺↔Ni³⁺ hole‑hopping pathway, substantially improving electrical conductivity. Consequently, the power conversion efficiency of the perovskite solar cell increases to 24%, and photodetector dark current is suppressed by 9.87-folds. These results demonstrate that a dual-treatment strategy combining EDA treatment and γ-ray irradiation can effectively improve the properties of NiOx HTLs, making it a useful strategy for the development of high-performance perovskite optoelectronic devices.
