Digitally Controlled On-Demand Drug Delivery via MXene-Coated Microneedles

Abstract

On-demand drug delivery enables precise therapeutic control with reduced side effects, but current systems often involve complex fabrication and limited scalability. Here, we introduce a bioelectronic drug delivery platform based on MXene-coated microneedles (MNs). MXenes, with their excellent conductivity, biocompatibility, and solution processability, allow for low-cost and scalable manufacturing. Upon electrical stimulation in an electrolytic environment, the MXene layer undergoes redox-driven oxidation and detachment, triggering controlled drug release. This system offers high biocompatibility, operational stability, and potential for localized, programmable, and multidrug delivery. Our approach provides a versatile and sustainable strategy for next-generation bioelectronic therapeutics.
