Abstract

Hardware-based security systems have become increasingly vulnerable to hacking due to the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI). As a result, Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) devices, which generate unique and unclonable identifiers, have emerged as promising next-generation security technologies. In this study, a two-phase system with a microporous structure was designed to maximize the randomness and uniqueness of organic semiconductor-based security devices.

A thin film was fabricated by blending the organic semiconductor poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT), the biodegradable polymer poly(1,4-butylene adipate) (PBA), and the surfactant Triton X-100. A selective removal process was then employed to induce a phase-separated microporous structure. As a result, the device spontaneously formed unique and unpredictable micro-patterns, demonstrating a high degree of randomness and validating its potential for implementation as a PUF device.
