Designing Supramolecular Polymerization and Emulsion Stabilization of Multicompartmentalized Nanoobjects

Abstract

Miktoarm core‑crosslinked star (CCS) polymers synthesized via polymerization‑induced self‑assembly (PISA) enable a spontaneous supramolecular polymerization. Here, we investigated how polymerization parameters affect these supramolecular polymerization. We demonstrated that increasing core size of miktoarm CCS polymers induced multicomparment structures and triggered a morphological transition from one-dimensional elongation to higher‑order superstructures. Highly solvophobic arms promoted earlier and stronger interparticle association, whereas less solvophobic arms delayed or suppressed supramolecular polymerization. In addition, these multicompartment CCS nanoparticles served as efficient emulsion stabilizers, producing stable high internal phase emulsions (HIPE).
