Molecular Design of Ureidopyrimidinone End-Capped Oligoimide for Enhanced Mechanical and Electrical Properties

Abstract

Polyimide (PI) is a high-performance polymer valued for its high thermal stability, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance, making it suitable for various electronic and energy applications. Although various monomer combinations have been used to tailor the desired properties of PIs, achieving high molecular weight often compromises solubility and processability. To address this issue, a low-molecular-weight oligoimide (OI) was synthesized and end-capped with Ureidopyrimidinone (UPy), enabling processability while maintaining key polymer properties.
Building on this strategy, the molecular structures of both the OI backbone and the UPy end-groups were further tuned to enhance charge separation during triboelectric interactions. By incorporating electron-withdrawing groups, hydrogen bonding, and extended aromatic systems, we investigate how these structural features influence triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) performance, with particular focus on LUMO energy level modulation.
