Abstract

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) offer effective interfacial engineering by enabling defect passivation and energy level alignment in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, scalable deposition and uniform film formation are hindered by their thin and hydrophobic nature. In this work, we present a phenothiazine-based SAM (PTZ-PA) constructed via synergistic co-adsorption with a hydrophilic phosphonic acid, functioning as a hole transport layer in p-i-n PSCs. PTZ-PA promotes the formation of perovskite films with improved morphology and crystallinity, and facilitates favorable energy level alignment for efficient hole extraction. The phosphonic acid moiety coordinates strongly with Pb²⁺ in the perovskite, improving electronic coupling and mechanical anchoring. Consequently, the devices reach a power conversion efficiency above 23.2% and exhibit long-term stability over 500 hours under continuous illumination.
