Abstract

Tunable silica particles are essential building blocks across fields such as catalysis, drug delivery, and photonic materials, yet current synthetic approaches remain limited in speed and versatility. The conventional Stober method offers monodispersity but suffers from long reaction times and poor tunability. This study presents an improved strategy by introducing alkylamines as both catalysts and surfactants, accelerating synthesis while preserving spherical monodispersity. Systematic variation of alkylamine type and concentration enabled precise control over reaction kinetics, particle morphology, and dispersion stability. The mechanism of surfactant-mediated particle formation was investigated by analyzing TEOS-micelle interactions and the role of alkylamine-solvent affinity in nucleation and growth dynamics. These findings expand the parameter space of the Stober method and establish a versatile platform for rapid synthesis of functional mesoporous silica particles.
