Abstract

The molecular design of polymer donors plays a crucial role in determining the performance of bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic photovoltaics (OPVs), in non-fullerene acceptor (NFA)-based systems. In this study, we investigated the effect of three representative donor polymers, PM6, PTQ10 and D18, on charge generation dynamics and device efficiency of BHJ OPVs incorporating BTP-eC9 as the NFA. Nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (ns-TAS) was employed to monitor the charge separation and transport. In parallel, complementary morphological characterization using grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) was conducted to elucidate the phase separation and molecular packing in BHJ. This results reveal a strong correlation between donor polymer structure, nanoscale morphology, and photophysical behavior, demonstrating the rational donor polymer design is essential for optimizing charge generation and achieving high power conversion efficiency (PCE) in NFA-based OPVs.
