Abstract

A copper-ion-doped water-soluble polyelectrolyte with a deep work function (WF) of -4.95 eV is designed to improve the energy harvesting and light detection performances. The enhancement of photo- and mitigated dark-currents are observed by introducing the Cu:PSS added PEDOT:PSS in organic solar cells (OSCs) and organic photodetectors (OPDs), respectively. By incorporating the Cu:PSS into PEDOT:PSS, the optimal condition results in an improved photo-currents (JSC of 27.74 mA cm-2) and a suppressed dark-currents (1.97 × 10−9 A cm−2). Further, the optimized condition demonstrated favorable surface morphology which contributed to the enhancement of device performance. Therefore, this study highlights the potential of Cu:PSS doping effect providing an promising strategy to achieve efficient light energy harvesting and signal detection.
