Abstract

Butyl rubber (IIR) is extensively used in applications such as tire liners, inner tubes, and flexible electronics due to its superior gas barrier and vibration-damping properties. Polydopamine (PDA), known for its unique adhesiveness, biocompatibility, and organic solvent-free synthesis, was employed to enhance the dispersion and interfacial adhesion of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in IIR. A self-polymerization method was used to coat the CNTs with a layer of PDA. The vulcanization process was analyzed through FT-IR spectroscopy, while microstructural and rheological properties were investigated using electron microscopy and rotational rheometry. Tensile properties, damping behavior, and electrical conductivity of the composites were evaluated. The improved dispersion of PDA-CNT, attributed to both covalent and non-covalent interactions with the matrix, resulted in enhanced curing efficiency, mechanical performance, and conductivity of the IIR composites.
