Abstract

In this study, porous hollow-structured carbon nanofiber (CNF) electrodes were fabricated using a coaxial electrospinning, with poly(azomethine ether) (PAME) as the primary polymer matrix. The fabricated CNFs were assembled into CR2032-type coin cells to assess their electrochemical performance with different electrolyte systems. Two types of electrolytes were evaluated: an aqueous electrolyte and organic solvent-based electrolytes. All coin cells showed typical EDLC behavior, confirming the physical charge storage mechanism of the electrodes. Notably, coin cells with organic electrolytes exhibited 3-4 times wider electrochemical potential windows compared to those using the KOH electrolyte. This expanded voltage range led to a significant improvement in energy density. These findings suggest that the combination of coaxially electrospun PAME-based hollow CNFs and optimized organic electrolytes presents a promising approach for the development of high-performance supercapacitors.
