Abstract
We introduce a new method for developing shortwave infrared (SWIR) organic photodiodes (OPDs) using doped polymers. By engineering the doping process to enhance bound polaron formation and their conversion to free polarons under illumination, we establish a new photodetection mechanism in the SWIR range. Controlled dopant diffusion into polymer crystalline domains maximized the bound-to-free polaron ratio, directly improving device performance. The optimized OPD achieved an external quantum efficiency of 77,100% and a detectivity of 1.11 × 10¹¹ Jones, demonstrating the potential of polarons as effective alternatives to Frenkel excitons in SWIR detection.
