Abstract

Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) for circularly polarized light (CPL) detection are gaining attention for chiroptoelectronic applications. We report a vertical-type OFET system based on non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) with chiral alkyl side chains, designed to achieve both high g-factor and detectivity. We investigated the effect of thermal annealing and end-group variation on the chiroptical and electrical performance of the devices. IC2F-based devices showed enhanced g-factor (–0.1) and detectivity (4.9 × 10¹¹ Jones) after annealing. In contrast, IC2Cl-based devices showed minimal change, indicating that end-group structure significantly affects molecular packing. These results highlight that combining end-group design, and thermal treatment is key to optimizing CPL-sensitive OFETs. This study offers a design strategy for CPL photodetectors based on chiral organic semiconductors and insight into how structural factors influence chiroptical performance.
