High-efficiency and Mechanically Robust Intrinsically Stretchable Organic Solar Cells for Wearable Electronics

Intrinsically stretchable organic solar cells (is-OSCs) represent an ideal power source for next-generation wearable electronics. However, a longterm challenge lies in overcoming the trade-off between power conversion efficency(PCE) and mechencial stretchability. To adderss this limitation, we report multiple strategies: (1) physical blending active materials with elastomers; (2) incorporation of chemical bonding to effecitvly disspiate internal stress; (3) new molecular design of a series of ductile polymer donors and non-fullerene acceptors exhibiting unique plasticizing effect. As a result, we achieved is-OSCs that simultantously show the high efficiency (PCE>19%) and mechnical stretchability (εᵤ >90%). These robust and efficient stretchable active layers also offer great potential for broader wearable electronics applications, such as  polarization-sensitive detection.
