The commercial viability of organic photovoltaics (OPVs) hinges on addressing the critical issue of stability, particularly the degradation of the photoactive layer under external stressors. In this talk, I will discuss the fundamental causes of instability in OPVs, including morphological changes, environmental factors, and material degradation. I will also discuss recent advances in materials design and device engineering strategies aimed at enhancing the long-term stability of OPVs. Based on our laboratory's research, I will share some of the approaches we have explored that show potential in addressing these stability challenges, contributing to the development of more durable and efficient organic solar cells.
