Recent advances in virtual intelligence have reached or surpassed human-level cognitive capabilities, while physical machines still lag in intelligent adaptability despite mimicking biological forms like humans or octopuses. To address this, our research group aims to develop an integrated robotic platform capable of programming its morphology, physical properties, interfaces, and functions. Achieving this requires innovation across materials, components, system architectures, manufacturing, and operation. In this talk, I will introduce key research directions and outcomes from our group, including programmable robotic components using smart materials, structural architectures based on tensegrity and folding mechanisms, and AI-based methods for robot design and operation. These efforts aim to bridge the virtual and physical worlds, reshaping our interaction with the environment.
