Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), particularly perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), are highly persistent pollutants that pose serious environmental and health risks. In this study, surface-fluorine-doped TiO₂ (F-TiO₂) was synthesized through simple thermal decomposition of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) to enhance photocatalytic degradation. Fluorine doping improved the hydrophobic interaction with PFOA and suppressed electron-hole recombination, resulting in higher activity than pristine TiO₂. Photocatalytic tests revealed that F-TiO₂ achieved approximately 40% higher PFOA removal after 6 hours compared to pristine TiO₂. Enhanced UV absorption was confirmed, demonstrating the potential of F-TiO₂ as a cost-effective and scalable photocatalyst for PFAS-contaminated water treatment.
