Biodegradable porous polymers have emerged for environmental and biomedical applications due to their tunable properties and degradability. Here, the poly(VL/LLA)HIPEs were successfully prepared using high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) with various macroinitiator architectures to tailor controllable degradation behavior. The linear and star architecture of chemical structures influenced the morphology and degradation behavior of poly(VL/LLA)HIPEs were investigated. Under physiological hydrolytic conditions (PBS solution, pH 7.4, 37 °C), distinct differences in degradation profiles were observed. FTIR results revealed that gradual chain scission at ester linkages, indicated by changes in carbonyl and aliphatic stretching regions, as well as an increase in hydroxyl groups over time. The results highlight the importance of polymer architecture in tailoring degradation rates and open opportunities for the design of advanced porous systems for targeted applications.
