Recently, research on designing nanostructures of metal-organic framework (MOF)-based carbon materials has attracted much attention due to their versatility in various energy and environmental applications. In particular, their large specific surface area and pore structure have attracted interest as high-performance supercapacitors. However, conventional thermal processing using furnaces has suffered from long process times that cause aggregation of metal atoms. In this study, we report a novel laser process to generate metal-organic framework-based carbon nanofibers. The laser process can have a higher surface area and porosity than conventional thermal carbonization due to its fast processing time within a few seconds, and can distribute metal nanoparticles more uniformly. The fibers thus prepared have excellent performance as supercapacitors and are expected to show promise in electrochemical applications.
