The polymerization of polyamide 66 (PA66) was conducted at 250°C for 4hours under both vacuum and high-pressure conditions, using a phosphoric acid catalyst (0.1–0.3mol%) and a deep eutectic solvent (DES, 1–3wt%). Under vacuum, the catalyst effectively promoted amide bond formation and confirmed using FT-IR, GPC, and GC-MS. The addition of DES improved viscosity control and increased uniformity, resulting in higher molecular weight. Due to the accumulation of amount of water generated during the polycondensation process, it is hard to form high-molecular-weight PA66 under high-pressure conditions. These results indicate that DES enhances PA66 polymerization degree efficiency under vacuum while it is difficult to achieve high molecular weight conversion under high pressure. As a result, it was confirmed that the use of DES enables synthesis of higher molecular weight PA66 under vacuum conditions, which is expected to have versatile applications in industrial settings.
