Vitrimers are a class of polymeric materials that combine the mechanical strength and thermal stability of thermosets with the reprocessability of thermoplastics. These dual characteristics make them attractive for structure adhesives requring both strong bonding and recyclability.
In this presentation, a vitrimer adhesive was developed without external chemical crosslinkers, relying on transesterification-based dynamic covalent bonding. Hydroxyl groups generated during epoxy ring-opening enabled self-catalyzed transesterification and spontaneous network formation. Lap shear adhesion tests were performed on aluminum, copper, and polycarbonate substrates, among which polycarbonate showed the highest bonding strength. This work presents a crosslnker-free strategy for desinging vitrimer adhesives with tunable properties and excellent adhesion to specific substrates.
