In this talk, I will discuss that hydrogels can be promising materials to be introduced into the field of tribotronics, resulting in maximizing the potential of TENGs and broadening the range of its applications. Feasibility and advantages of applying hydrogels as conducting layer in TENGs will be investigated. Three sections of ionic devices based on tribotronics will be explored; (1) design of soft ionic materials for tribotronics, (2) triboelectric energy harvesting based on ionic materials, and (3) broadening the research field of tribotronics based on ionic materials: self-powered touch sensors, touch position sensors, proximity sensors, and versatile soft robots. Fundamental insights into the underlying working principle of ionic material-based TENG may help to open new avenues for further innovation in the field of soft devices.
