In response to growing environment concerns and EU regulations, the use of recycled plastics in automotive has sighnificantly expanded. However, recycled polymer often exhibitsinferior mechanical properties compared to virgin materials.
This study investigates the degradation of mechanical properties and the manifestation of oder-related challenges arising from the incorporation of post-consumer recycled (PCR) and end-of-life vehicle (ELV) polypropylene (PP). To address these challenges, we evaluate the influence of stiffness-enhancing and impact-modifying additives on the performance characteristics of recycled PP compounds. In addition, the effects of additive particle size and thermal behavior on the composite performance was analyzed. The results provide practical insights into material design strategies to improve the stiffness, impact strengh, and odor performance of recylced PP, facilitating its broader adoption in automotive interior applications.
