Implantable devices are essential components in modern biomedical applications, such as continuous monitoring to infection treatment. However, conventional batteries suffer from limitations in size, rigidity, and inflammation. To address these challenges, bioresorbable supercapacitors have emerged as a promising alternative for transient energy storage in next-generation implantable devices.
This study presents fabrication of a polycaprolactone nanomesh-based bioresorbable supercapacitor using a molybdenum exhibiting excellent bioresorbability as the electrode and polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan as the electrolyte. The supercapacitor performance was evaluated through electrochemical methods, and its bioresorbability was demonstrated by gradual decomposition under physiological conditions.
Furthermore, the successful integration of this supercapacitor into an implantable device is anticipated to open new avenues for innovative applications in the healthcare and biomedical fields.
