Gas sensors play a vital role in managing environmental pollution, early disease detection and safety. with the advancements of the Internet of Things, wearable sensors are increasingly demanded where sensing materials with room-temperature (RT) operability and solvent processability are highly desired. In particular, MXenes have emerged as highly promising candidates as RT gas sensors due to their large specific surface area, and tunable chemical properties. However, achieving selective gas sensing and stability are still critical issues that need to be overcome. In this study, we try to address these issues by synthesizing high crystalline Ti3C2Tx MXene where the surface is modified with diazonium salts. We show that surface-modified MXenes exhibit exceptional selectivity toward gases such as acetone or ammonia while demonstrating improved long-term stability. These findings will help the fabrication of high-performance sensor for next-generation industrial applications.
