Vertically Stacked Skin-conformal Organic Photodetectors for Dual-Wavelength Detection in Motion-Robust SpO2 monitoring

Accurate pulse oximetry in wearable healthcare remains challenging due to two key limitations of conventional organic photodiode (OPD) systems: spatial separation of detectors and limited spectral selectivity. Conventional devices detect red and near-infrared (NIR) signals at different skin sites, making them susceptible to motion artifacts and signal scattering. Moreover, Spectral overlap further causes crosstalk, hindering precise oxygen saturation (SpO2) analysis. To address these issues, we propose a vertically stacked, skin-conformal OPDs capable of dual-wavelength detection at a single skin location with high spectral specificity. Charge injection narrowing (CIN) is employed in the NIR-selective OPD, which is located above a visible-light OPD, to suppress unwanted visible response to below 1% external quantum efficiency (EQE). The device shows stable performance under skin contact and motion, offering a compact, scalable solution for reliable wearable SpO2 monitoring.
