Salt-templated Porous Electrodes and Zwitterionic Electrolytes for All-Hydrogel Supercapacitors

Hydrogel-based supercapacitors are promising for next-generation soft and biointegrated energy storage, simultaneously achieving high electrochemical performance and biocompatibility remains challenging. Here, we develop a dual NaCl-based strategy combining porous electrodes fabricated via NaCl templating with zwitterionic hydrogel electrolytes containing biocompatible NaCl. Optimizing the electrode composition and structure leads to improved porosity, stability, and electrochemical performance, while using a zwitterionic hydrogel with non-toxic electrolyte enhances interfacial adhesion. This approach addresses the performance-biocompatibility trade-off in hydrogel supercapacitors, offering a viable pathway for safe, wearable energy storage applications.
