Hydroxylamine (HA), a toxic compound in industrial effluents, poses serious environmental risks. While electrochemical sensors offer high sensitivity, their poor reusability limits field use. Here, we present a colorimetric hydrogel sensor composed of polydiacetylene-benzaldehyde (PDA-BA) liposome-loaded alginate beads for point-of-care HA detection. The PDA-BA liposomes exhibit a blue-to-red color shift via oxime formation within 5 minutes of HA exposure. To improve sensitivity, 2-amino-5-methoxybenzoic acid (5-MA) was co-loaded into the alginate matrix without disrupting liposome function. RGB analysis using ImageJ showed a concentration-dependent colorimetric response (CR%), enabling semi-quantitative detection. The sensor allows naked-eye observation and smartphone-based analysis without specialized equipment. With its simplicity, portability, and catalytic enhancement, this PDA-based bead system offers a cost-effective solution for on-site monitoring of hazardous amines in water.
