Cuprous oxide (Cu2O) has gained attention as a photocathode material in photoelectrochemical (PEC) systems due to its favorable optoelectronic properties for water splitting. However, its practical performance is often limited by low light absorption. In this study, we introduce a laser-induced dot patterning method to improve light-harvesting efficiency and enhance the PEC performance of Cu2O electrodes. UV-Vis and photoluminescence (PL/TRPL) analyses revealed that the patterned structure exhibits stronger light absorption and longer carrier lifetimes compared to unpatterned samples, indicating reduced recombination and improved charge separation. Consequently, the dot-patterned Cu2O photocathode showed higher photocurrent density and enhanced hydrogen evolution performance. These findings demonstrate that laser patterning is a promising and straightforward approach to boost the efficiency of Cu2O-based PEC devices without requiring complex fabrication steps.
