Binary Photocatalyst of Leaf Shape Polyaniline-TiO<sub>2</sub> Nanocomposites for Photodegradation of Toxic Organic Dyes

A series of binary photocatalyst of Leaf Shape PANI-TiO2 (L-PANI-TiO2) with different ratio of TiO2 had been fabricated via chemical oxidation polymerization and the photodegradation towards RB5 toxic dye were investigated. The photodegradation for L-PANI with 5%, 20%, and 30% of TiO2 was 44.2%, 41.7%, and 35.5%, respectively. Hence, L-PANI-TiO2 (10%) was selected to further study by varying the reaction conditions to achieve the best photodegradation. Results showed that L-PANI, TiO2 & L-PANI-TiO2 (5-30%) photocatalyst are following pseudo first order kinetics plot (R=0.99) and the rate constant was decreased as following the sequence: L-PANI-TiO2 (10%) (0.0223 min-1) > 5% > 20% > 30% > L-PANI > TiO2 (0.0012 min-1). In conclusion, 250 mg/L of L-PANI-TiO2 (10%) was left in dark condition for 80 mins before irradiation was found to be the optimized catalyst as it successfully photodegraded 98.2% of 10 ppm RB5 within 180 mins VIS light illumination.
